After a few days of rumors, Treyarch has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 servers have received a send rates downgrade in comparison with the beta.

User u/Smcro had shared his discoveries on Reddit, hinting at a possible downgrade in terms of quality of the Black Ops 4 servers, which had reportedly passed from a 60hz rate during the beta at the current 20hz, a third of the original value.

For context, the send rate is the “rate at which update packets are sent between systems. This is also known as update rate and is commonly confused with tick rate which is something entirely different,” as explained by the same user.

Treyarch noted the spreading of the rumor, confirming later on Sunday’s update that it is working on different solutions over the time in order to reach the perfect one for the multiplayer game.

“We’ve also noticed a lot of discussion around network performance over the past couple of days and wanted to take a moment to address this directly.

We’re constantly working to optimize the game, and particularly network performance, to ensure the highest quality online experience for our players. For a game launch with as massive a population as ours hitting so many global servers at once, we configure our infrastructure to ensure game stability as the highest priority over all other factors.”

The dev added that it’s working on “fine-tuning network performance around the globe” while taking real-world date into account. “Over the course of the next two weeks, we will roll out several updates to our network setup that will continue to improve upon the experience of our players since launch.”

As ComicBook notes, Overwatch underwent a similar process, “downgrading” server’s rates and then upping after a few months of initial study. Hopefully things will get better and better as Treyarch finds the perfect solution for the title.
