NPD April 2019: Mortal Kombat 11 Is The Best Selling Game, Days Gone At Second Place

The NPD report reveals what were the best-selling games for April 2019.
Mortal Kombat 11 and Days Gone were the best-selling games in the United States for April. Mortal Kombat 11 is the most recent entry in the iconic fight game franchise. The franchise is known for its over-the-top violence, and polish gameplay. Days Gone is an original game that centers on an apocalyptic world, and looking cool on a motorbike. Mortal Kombat 11 gained mostly positive reviews, whereas Days Gone got, for the most part, okay reviews.
Though Days Gone was number two for April, Mortal Kombat was number one in all consoles it released on. It was the best-selling game on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Additionally, Mortal Kombat 11 is the first third-party game to be the best selling game on the Switch since Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. Mortal Kombat 11 is now counted as the second best-selling game of 2019, only behind Kingdom Hearts III. Kingdom Hearts III sold 5 million copies in its first week.
Despite Mortal Kombat 11 is the clear winner of the month, Days Gone is still considered to have the seventh best debut month sales in Sony history.

Dollar shares for video game software in April are up 15 percent when compared to the same dollar shares from April of last year. Meanwhile, dollar shares for hardware are down 29 percent compared to April from last year. The Nintendo Switch is the best-selling console in the US for April of this year.
