Assassin’s Creed Won’t Get New Games In 2019

To many, it was quite surprising to see Ubisoft announcing a brand new Assassin’s Creed game this year after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Origins, which was kind of a demonstration that the series needs more time to rest between the different chapters.
From the looks of it, Ubisoft doesn’t want to make the franchise annual again, though. According to CEO Yves Guillemot, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey won’t have a follow up in 2019, as the saga will take some time to nurture and grow the next iteration.
“On Assassin’s, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin’s next year,” he told GameSpot.
“It’s just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one”.
“What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Assassin’s Creed Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually,” Guillemot then added, clarifying what he meant by saying “fully fledged” – not a spin off or anything else, to be clear.
Quite honestly, I’m happy about Ubisoft taking more time to develop Assassin’s Creed games, as this strategy worked very good with Origins. I’m also surprisingly thrilled about Odyssey, so I already look forward to seeing how this and Origins can get in the mix, as experiences and learning, for the future.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is releasing October 5, 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
