AMD Announce A Price Cut For Navi GPUs To Take On The RTX Super Cards From Nvidia

In somewhat surprising news, AMD has announced price cuts to the new Navi GPUs. Due to release on July 7, the price cut appears to be in reaction to Nvidia announcing their RTX Super cards this week. The new prices will make the GPUs a more attractive option for people who liked the specs but were a little put out by the pricing.
The new AMD Navi prices are as follows:
- AMD Radeon RX 5700 – $349
- AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT – $399
- AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition – $449
That’s a $30 cut for the RX 5700 and a $50 cut for the XT models. At the moment, we do not know the prices for other regions. The new Navi cards were rumored to be a little bit more powerful than their respective Nvidia competition, but the Super cards would have closed any gap, in theory. Now it seems that the Navi cards are once again the more attractive option, due to the lower pricing.
I do feel the need to point out that any details and performance information released by both AMD and Navi needs to taken with a pinch of salt. It is always a good idea to let the products get into the hands of reviewers you trust before making any decisions about what to buy. I like to let the early adopters get their hands on things and give them good testing first. All the marketing in the world isn’t as good as real-world testing.
I do, however, plan on putting together a new build very soon, so am curious if either the new Navi or Super cards can give me a good reason to move on from my RTX 2070. It is unlikely, as I don’t expect the dollar to performance ratio to be worth it for me, but these cards will more than likely make a lot of sense for other consumers out there.
It is also interesting that while consoles are all chasing the 4K dream, upscaled as it may be, the PC GPU market has settled into fierce competition around the 1440p mark. Pretty much all the new Navi cards should give a reliable performance at that resolution, but might struggle to hit the 60 FPS point at 4K. We should start seeing the reviews begin to land over the weekend and on into next week, so we won’t have to wait much longer to find out how good Navi GPUs are.
