Report: Resident Evil 3 Remake Could Release Next Year

By now, you’re probably aware of Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 2 was a massive success, selling over four million copies in its first few months of release alone. So it should be no surprise the company is exploring its options for what game to remake next.
A report from Video Games Chronicle (as well as YouTube page Spawn Wave) suggests that the long-rumored Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake is well underway in development, lined up for a potential release sometime next year.
It will likely use the same engine the Resident Evil 2: Remake did, since it was highly effective in bumping up the survival horror themes. The reports also suggest that similar assets, like zombies, might be used in some cases.
There’s a good chance Capcom will release the title during the September 2020 window for the game, since that would coincide with the original PlayStation game’s 21st anniversary release.
In the past, Capcom noted that there was consideration for remakes, provided that fans “voice their enthusiasm” for such projects. After playing through Resident Evil 2: Remake, it seems pretty obvious they want more where that came from.
Not to mention that RE3 would balance out with the release of Project Resistance, which was announced earlier this year and is slated to arrive in 2020. Offering a traditional single-player adventure alongside this multiplayer title would do well for Capcom, satisfying both audiences.
Capcom hasn’t confirmed this information yet, so take it with a grain of salt. But Resident Evil 3 seems like the next logical step in evolving this series with proper remakes. Relive the glory of Resident Evil 2 with the trailer below.
