Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Focusing On Co-Op, Ditching Battle Royale And Zombie

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been finally revealed and is launching on October 25, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. While it is still ignoring Nintendo Switch, it is making some changes to what we’ve come to expect from new Call of Duty games.
First of all, the title is not featuring a battle royale mode, something that Activision will leave to Black Ops 4 and Call of Duty Mobile, apparently, at least in the short term. It was something rumored, and something quite anticipated, but it is now confirmed.
Back in the days, we had also heard rumors about the lack of a Zombie mode, which has been confirmed in the official reveal. The mode will remain a Black Ops 4 exclusive as Treyarch is planning on releasing more content over the year and then return in 2020 with Black Ops 5 as rumored.
Developer Infinity Ward has explained the decision to leave these modes out with the focus on cooperative gameplay, as Modern Warfare will come complete with a four-player cooperative campaign and the return of the Spec Ops mode which was much appreciated in MW2 and 3.
“Because they focus on more of the stylized, graphic novel, super-hero experience, they can have the much more ‘out there’ different types of gameplay in their games,” Campaign Gameplay Director Jacob Minkoff said.
“But for us, we’re trying to create an authentic, realistic feeling world. We don’t have the flexibility to do something like put zombies in the game. That would compromise the feeling of playing in a world that feels realistic and authentic and relative to today’s conflicts and things we face.”
Minkoff also added that the studio will be detailing the cooperative offering, which is going to be the main thing in this year’s Call of Duty just like for Activision to fill the void left by Destiny 2, in the coming weeks but it is something that the game will handle seamlessly.
“We’re not ready to talk about cooperative play yet, but what I will tell you is that the single-player storyline goes directly into the co-op storyline. No stop. The events just continue. So those elements—gameplay, progression, story—they just continue throughout everything that we have on the disc or digital download.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is releasing on October 25, 2019.
