Not one, but two Mafia games could very well be on the way.

It’s been roughly three years since Hangar 13 and 2K Games released Mafia III to much acclaim and fanfare. But for those wondering when the series will make a comeback, it’s not official quite yet. But it appears to be on the horizon.

Segment Next recently reported that Take-Two Interactive just registered three different trademarks that tie in with the franchise. And not only does a new chapter in the Mafia series look to be on the way, but the devs at Hangar 13 might revisit the past as well.

Two trademarks point at the term Mafia in general, one featuring the game’s original font and the other just having regular print. While neither of them states that Mafia 4 is inbound, the filing of two separate trademarks indicates that one of them could turn out to be a new game.

That would make sense, considering that Mafia III sold over five million copies since its release, making it a massive hit for the publisher.

But that’s not all. A trademark was also applied for Mafia II, featuring the classic logo from the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions. This could point to a possible remastered version of the game for current or future consoles, though the listing wasn’t specific, as the word “remastered” wasn’t included.

Still, Mafia II was a big hit in the past; and 2K has released Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which sold very well. So a re-release could happen.

Finally, a new logo for Hangar 13 was trademarked, which means the developer is set to present something new. Not right away, mind you, but they’re prepping just in case.

Considering that the developer hasn’t provided any updates since it wrapped up Mafia III’s downloadable content, it has to be hard at work on something. A one-two punch of Mafia games for 2020 could do the trick.

2K hasn’t said a word about the filings, and likely won’t. So it’s an unconfirmed report right now. But considering they include official logos, it looks like something should happen with the franchise. Now it’s just a matter of when.

Mafia III is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
