The football seasons in Europe are over, and another year of action from the world’s top leagues is officially in the books. Not only does the offseason give football fans a chance to look ahead to next year, but it’s also is a time to think about the next FIFA game. Traditionally, most yearly sports titles, such as NBA 2K, Madden, and NHL, launch in the fall, and the FIFA franchise is no exception. Football (or soccer, if you’re in the U.S.) fans typically look towards the start of the summer in the Northern Hemisphere for first information regarding FIFA from EA, but should we expect that again this year? Let’s take a look at what we know, and don’t know about FIFA 22.
It took a while, but EA officially announced first details regarding FIFA 22 in early July. On July 9, the gaming powerhouse announced the cover athlete for FIFA 22. Last year, PSG sensation Kylian Mbappe graced the cover of FIFA 21, and that will be the case in 2021. The French sensation will be on the cover once again for FIFA 22, as EA moves towards the next generation of football gaming.
Two days after this announcement, EA announced more details regarding FIFA 22, including the title’s release date. FIFA 22 will launch worldwide on October 1 for old and next-gen consoles, as well as for Stadia and the Nintendo Switch.
This is close to what we expected for the launch date. Traditionally, FIFA games launch sometime between mid-September and early October. But earlier this year, EA, in its Q4 2021 earnings report, stated that FIFA 22 should launch sometime in the second quarter of the 2022 financial year. This seemed to indicate a launch in September, but it looks like football fans will have to wait just a bit longer for the new title.
