What is the file size of XCOM 2 Collection on Nintendo Switch?
Make room for the battle of Earth.
Nintendo Switch owners will finally get to try and rid Earth of those pesky Alien invaders when XCOM 2 Collection launches on May 29. The compilation of Firaxis’ RTS title comes complete with the main game, War of the Chosen expansion, and four DLC packs, so there will be plenty for Switch fans to enjoy.
With so much content available, Switch owners might wonder how XCOM 2 Collection will fit onto their Switch’s internal hard drive. After all, there’s only 32 GB available. First, the good news. According to the Nintendo gamepage listing, the file size for XCOM 2 Collection is 6.5 GB. You might think that’s mighty small for an RTS game, especially one where a permadeath feature means your save file might take up more room than usual — and you’d be right.
That 6.5 GB file size is what’s on the physical port’s cartridge. The full game is simply too big to fit onto a single cartridge, so what’s packaged on that is the first few missions and some other important data. You’ll have to download the rest of XCOM 2 Collection from the Nintendo eShop.
The rest of the game’s contents will set you back 24 GB of space. We know this as a Nintendo press release — sent out after a Nintendo Direct mini in March — confirmed as much. This is confirmed by the game’s Amazon listing too. In total, then, you can expect XCOM 2 Collection to take up 30.5 GB of space. If you download it digitally, you’ll still need the same amount of space.
As your Switch only has a 32 GB SSD, you’ll need a microSD card to download XCOM 2 Collection onto. It’s that or you migrate every other piece of Switch data to a microSD card or delete it entirely. We know which option we’d plump for.
