What is Error Code 40 for Valorant?

Valorant is Riot Games’ five on five first-person shooter where teams face off against each other in an epic battle to see who comes out on top of the best of 24 games. Right now, some players are experiencing issues with an Error Code 40, and it’s a little troublesome to figure out what’s going on, preventing some of them from jumping back into the game.
When the error code pops up, it comes with the text, “There was an error connecting to the platform. Please restart your game client.” There’s no information if a network issue causes the error, or if there’s anything happen on Riot’s side to cause this error.
The first thing to do is to try restarting your game client. You’ll want to exit out of the game any way you can to see if this solves the issue. You may have to ALT+CRLT+DEL to bring up your hardware’s task manager to manually turn off Valorant to shut it down. When you have it shut down, double-check to see if there are any updates you’re missing, and ensure you’re network connection is doing well.
Once those are checked, try to rerun the game. If you’re still experiencing issues when attempting to connect to a match, try restarting again to see if it’s on Riot’s side. It might be a simple network hiccup on its side. You probably need to play something else for the time being until Riot’s servers have stabilized and you can return without any issues.
We don’t know the exact details of why this error is happening. Error Code 40 does not pop up among Valorant‘s known issues, so it could be a rare one where we need to wait for Riot to provide more information. Some players may only see this error code once, be able to restart their game, and they can seamlessly enter their next match. It’s good to have a back-up game at the ready to ensure you always have something to play during Valorant‘s downtime.
