Unlocking the Hard Pass achievement in The Quarry

The Hard Pass achievement/trophy is a secret one, but it’s description is pretty plain. “Refuse Eliza’s help,” it reads. If you’re going for the full 1,000 gamerscore on Xbox or the platinum trophy on PlayStation, then you’re going to want to do that. Based on the description, there’s a pretty reliable for theory for how it’s presumed to be unlocked. She wants you to kill the Hackett Family over the course of the game, but that doesn’t seem to be relevant here.

Eliza offers “help” in a few different forms, but the most obvious one is her tarot card readings. Every time you find a tarot card in the game, she’ll be able to use it read your fortune between chapters. However, you can refuse to probe deeper even after she explains the card and offers her insight. Refusing this every time until the credits roll is assumed to be the method for unlocking the achievement/trophy.

Alternatively, you can avoid even getting an offer from Eliza but not picking up any tarot cards in the first place. We have a list of all the tarot card locations in the game, but even if you stumble upon one, you don’t have to press the button to pick it up. If you want to avoid even the possibility of accepting her help, that’s the way to go.

The Hard Pass achievement bug

Yes, we said “theory” and “assumed” when describing how to unlock the Hard Pass achievement/trophy before. That’s because Hard Pass is currently bugged in The Quarry. Even if you take the above steps, it won’t pop. Publisher 2K is aware of this bug, and it promised on Twitter “to release a fix for it in [the] next post-launch update.” We don’t know when that update will arrive or if the achievement will be unlocked retroactively once it’s applied, so stay tuned for more information.
