Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How to Find Bloodmoon Ursaluna in The Teal Mask

Bloodmoon Ursaluna makes its debut in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Teal Mask DLC, but it only spawns in a specific way.

A handful of new and returning Pokemon appear in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC. However, some unique Pokemon have a distinct twist in this DLC, such as Ursaluna, a Pokemon that originally appeared in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It has a new form in The Teal Mask called Bloodmoon Ursaluna, and you can find it while exploring Kitakami.

However, there are a few requirements you have to meet if you want to track down and catch this Pokemon. These requirements are steep, so only some players should expect to unlock it right away. Here’s what you need to know about how to evolve Ursaring into Ursaluna Blood Moon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC.

It has been revealed through dataminers that the Ursaluna Bloodmoon form appears in a side quest from a character called Perrin. From what we have discovered, the side quest required players to complete the Pokedex for 150 Pokemon that appear in the Kitakami region. You can check your progress by opening up your Pokedex to see which Pokemon you’re missing. There are more than 150 Pokemon in the Kitakami region, so you don’t have to fill it out completely, and there are some that carry over from the Paldea Pokedex, too.

You’ll have to complete the DLC’s main story to unlock the four unique Legendary and Mythical Pokemon that appear if you want to make those part of your collection. These Pokemon exclusively show up in the quest, and you won’t be able to find them outside of these encounters.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna appears in a side quest that you can activate at any time. Although Ursaluna is traditionally an evolution of Ursaring, it seems that this will be a standalone encounter for your Teal Mask DLC playthrough, and you won’t be able to evolve a standard Ursaring into one, which also explains why it’s a shiny locked Pokemon. Every player who owns The Teal Mask DLC on their Pokemon Scarlet & Violet version can have one encounter of this Pokemon, and from what we can tell, it won’t appear outside of this side quest with Perrin.

When you meet Perrin, you’ll need to take 10 photos of Pokemon during Foggy Nights. Rather than waiting for these evenings to show up, speak with Perrin, and they’ll spawn these nights for you, making it far easier to take pictures of these Pokemon.

I found that it was best to always return to Perrin before taking the photographs. Waiting for this type of weather to arrive on Kitakami can be a time-consuming process in The Teal Mask, and because she can immediately change the weather for you, it makes it much easier to track these 10 Pokemon down.

After you’ve taken a picture of these 10 Pokemon, Bloodmoon Ursaluna will appear in a cutscene. You and your team of Pokemon will have a chance to catch it, adding Bloodmoon Ursaluna into your Kitakami Pokedex, bringing you one step closer to completing all of it in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Can You Evolve Ursaring into Bloodmoon Ursaluna in The Teal Mask?

From what I can tell, that won’t be available for the Teal Mask DLC in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The Bloodmoon Ursaluna encounter is exclusive to the side quest, and with it being a single encounter, players won’t be able to use an evolution item for this Pokemon.

Hopefully, in future editions of other Pokemon games, it becomes possible for Ursaring to become Bloodmoon Ursaluna through a specific item. This item did not appear in The Teal Mask, but it’s possible The Pokemon Company will be adding one in the future.
