Catch Combo is a new feature added to the Nintendo Switch games Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! By catching the same species in a row, you’ll increase the Catch Combo score, which will give you greater benefits depending on the length of your chain.

But exactly what are these rewards and benefits?

Well, for starters, rare Pokémon will spawn in areas where you have a high Catch Combo. But you can also, for example, go to Route 1 and catch over 20 Pidgeys in a row and then go to a different area to still have rare Pokémon spawning more frequently.

This opens up better chances to get Pokémon like Lapras and Chansey, which might only turn up once in a blue moon if you’re trying to capture them without a Catch Combo chain.

A Catch Combo will also increase the likelihood of a shiny Pokémon appearing in that area. If you keep catching a bunch of Pidgeys, for example, the chances of you seeing a shiny Pidgey spawn will increase with each successful combo.

You’ll also be rewarded more items and experience for successful chains, including some rarer and hard-to-find items. Break the Catch Combo when trying to do any of the things above, however, and you’ll need to go back to square one.

There are a number of ways that you can break the combo. This includes running from the capture attempt for the same species, a different Pokémon running into you, capturing a Pokémon of a different species, and saving an exiting the game.
