NHL 21: How to complete all HUT Team of the Year master sets

The Team of the Year master sets are here.

Despite the shutdown of the National Hockey League for over four months due to the aftermath of COVID-19, 2020 was still a big year for many of the league’s top players. To recognize the achievements from the past calendar year, EA Sports on January 1 announced its Team of the Year (TOTY) for 2020, which was decided via a fan vote. Each of the players who made the TOTY received special player items in Hockey Ultimate Team, which can be obtained either through pack pulls or by completing master sets.

How to complete all HUT Team of the Year master sets

Six players (Leon Draisaitl, Artemi Panarin, David Pastrnak, Victor Hedman, Cale Makar, Andrei Vasilevskiy) received special player items in Hockey Ultimate Team, and each of these athletes has a master TOTY item.

Team of the Year player items are very valuable in NHL 21. Each of these six cards will automatically be upgraded based upon that player’s highest-rated player item. To illustrate, Leon Draisaitl’s TOTY item, at launch was at 93 OVR. However, if Draisaitl receives a 95 OVR Team of the Week player item later this year, the TOTY card will also upgrade to 95 OVR.

In order to pick up one of these items, NHL players have a number of options. Users could either test their luck and try to pull these cards through packs, or they can complete the TOTY sets that can be found in the Team of the Year sets folder. The sets for the Team of the Year are as followed:

  • Two Random Team of the Year Master Item Sets – Require either 20 Gold Collectibles or 6 Team of the Year Collectibles and 18 Gold Collectibles
  • Six Team of the Year Master Item sets (there is one for each player)

The requirements for the six master sets are as followed:

Players can grab TOTY collectibles by completing Team of the Year career challenges. Additionally, NHL players can pick up a TOTY collectible upon clearing all tiers in HUT RUSH for the week of December 31 to January 7. As far as Gold Collectibles go, NHL users can get those by exchanging Gold and Gold Rare player items. 50 Gold players are required for one Gold Collectible.

Which cards should you target?

Our picks for this promo are to go after Draisaitl, Makar, and Pastrnak. Pastrnak has fantastic shooting and skating attributes, and the Bruins winger also possesses the valuable Howitzer attribute. Yes, Pastrnak might not get many upgrades this year becuase he is hurt in real-life, thus reducing his chances of receiving an upgraded item, but the attributes are worth it.

Makar has great skating and passing stats, both of which are very helpful for defencemen. And as far as Draisaitl goes, the Oilers star is very well-balanced, but the skating attributes are not phenomenal. However, the German sensation does possess arguably the most valuable synergy in NHL 21: the Distributor. If you can, or already do have the Distributor synergy active, Draisaitl is definitely worth the add, if you have the Coins and/or Gold players need to complete his set.

NHL 21 Team of the Year master sets will expire on January 8, 2021.
