Riot Games has announced Valorant, a free-to-play, 5v5 competitive shooter game that will be launching later this summer and is in closed beta now. The game will pit two teams of characters against each other in tight, tactical gunfights, bolstered by the powers of the characters themselves. Games will play out in a best-of-24-round format, with an income economy dictating what weapons will be available to each team between rounds, in a similar fashion to CS:GO

At the moment, the only platform that the game is due to launch on is PC, with no announcement having been made about the game possible coming to consoles. So, if you are curious about the game but play only on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, then that’s some bad news, we’re afraid.

The game will likely end up releasing on consoles in the future. Riot Games has been looking to extend its market to include mobile devices with Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics and is even bringing a version of League of Legends, called Wild Rift, to consoles later this year. Riot has yet to say anything official about a console release for Valorant, so for now, it is best to assume that any plans to bring it to consoles would be quite far away.

There is also the chance that Riot is waiting to release Valorant on the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles and will wait for the new hardware to arrive, rather than release the games on consoles that will soon begin to have a shrinking user base.

For now, this is all just supposition, and we will need to wait for Riot to release any information about future plans for the game to know for sure.
