While not nearly as prominent as they once were, amiibos are Nintendo’s way to bake a little extra content into certain video games. These small figures of your favorite Nintendo characters have unique functionality with each game that supports them. With the release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Legend of Zelda amiibo has another game to interact with. The Champions amiibo line is even getting a re-release. Here is how to use amiibo in Age of Calamity and what they get you.

How to scan amiibo in Age of Calamity

When you first turn on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and get to the main menu, do not start the game. Instead, scroll to the bottom and select amiibo. A message will pop up saying to place your amiibo over the NFC touchpoint on a Switch controller that can scan it. You will need to use either the center of the pro controller or the joystick on a right side joy-con.

You can scan up to five amiibo a day in Age of Calamity. Scan anymore within the day, and a message will pop up saying, “You can’t receive more rewards from amiibo accessories today.” It doesn’t have to be only Zelda amiibo that you can scan in the game. Scanning any amiibo will work as well.

What does scanning amiibo get you?

Scanning amiibos in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will earn you some new items. Some amiibo will get you weapons to use on the battlefield. Other amiibo will retrieve random items and craftable reagents to add to your inventory. Unfortunately, there is no additional functionality for amiibo as of this writing and likely will not be. Regardless, it is a decent way to make use of your amiibos that are gathering dust.
