If you booted up Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and messed around with the Create-a-Class functions, you can probably tell one feature is there that wasn’t in Modern Warfare. This feature being the wildcard system, and the create-a-class menu doesn’t exactly tell you what it is nor how to unlock it.

If you’re unfamiliar with wildcards, you can apply one of four, with each letting you break a certain rule in Create-a-Class – like being able to carry to additional grenades. However, you cannot do this when beginning your multiplayer journey, as the loadout menu has a lock symbol over the wildcard option.

Like weapons, each wildcard has to be unlocked separately at certain progression levels. Here is what each does and when they will be rewarded to you.

  • Level 12: Close Danger – Equip extra lethal and tactical thrown equipment. Start with additional ammo.
  • Level 21: Law Breaker – Equip any weapon class in either slot. Equip multiple perks from one perk category.
  • Level 27: Gunfighter – Unlock 3 additional attachment slots for your primary weapon.
  • Level 45: Perk Greed – Equip an extra perk from each perk category.

If you’re looking for a quick fix, we recommend you try a default class, as each includes one of these cards so that you can get a better idea of how each differs.
