There are several regions you need to unlock as you progress through Elden Ring. Some of these locations are blocked off by powerful bosses that you need to find, and others require a little exploration to find the specific item you need to access, such as the Altus Plateau.

It’s one of the more difficult regions you need to reach, and it will take some time to get there. You’ll need to unlock the Grand Lift of Dectus to reach it, and there are alternative ways into this area. Here’s what you need to know about how to get to the Altus Plateau in Elden Ring.

One of the more straightforward methods is locating the two Dectus medallion pieces. These are two items that you need to locate, separated somewhere on the map. One of the pieces will appear at the top of Fort Haight, which you can find in the southeast region of the Mistwoods in Limgrave.

The other piece will be at Fort Faroth, which you can find in Dragonborrow, in Caelid. Between the two, Fort Faroth is the more difficult to explore, given that it has several high-level enemies to encounter and several dragons you’ll need to bypass.

Once you have both of these keys, return to the Great Lift of Dectus, and interact with the lift using these two medallion pieces. There will be a brief cutscene that plays out the first time you appear here, and then you can freely use this lift at all times to visit this area or take any of the Grace Sites to fast travel around the map after you discover and unlock them.

There are alternative routes to reach this location. For example, you can be killed by the Abductor Virgin when visiting the Raya Lucaria waterwheel, which takes you to the Volcano Manor, in the western part of the Altus Plateau region. You can freely explore this region after you defeat the Abductor Virgins boss.
