Hidden abilities are special rewards that are earned by taking part in Max Raid Battles. You will receive a Dynamax Band early in the game that will allow you to take part in them. As you play through the game, you will arrive in the Wild Area, and this is when you can start exploring Max Raid Battles.

How To Get Hidden Abilities In Pokémon Sword and Shield

In the Wild Area, you will notice glowing rock formations that emit a red beam of light. These are active Max Raid Battle spots. Interact with them to queue up with other players. It is possible to play these solo, with friendly AI players, but it is more fun to play with your fellow Trainers.

You will need to defeat and catch the Max Raid Battle enemy. Sometimes these Pokémon can have Hidden Abilities, but this is a random reward. You may need to grind Max Raid Battles to get a Pokémon that has such an ability.

The reason they are called Hidden Abilities is that they are hidden from you, despite being active on the Pokémon that have them. At the moment, there is no indication that Hidden Abilities can be passed on to the Pokémon’s descendants.

Hidden Abilities List

Below you will find a list of Hidden Abilities. The list is not exhaustive and will be updated as more Hidden Abilities are discovered.

Grassy Surge

Turns the ground into Grassy Terrain when the Pokémon enters a battle.

Gulp Missle

Protective scales of ice will have damage taken from special moves.

Intrepid Sword

Propeller Tail
