Murmuring Obols are one of the many currencies you’ll track down in Diablo 4. You’ll be looking for this resource relatively often during your playthrough, and when you have enough, it’ll be time to turn them in for various rewards.
How you acquire Murmuring Obols is a little vague, along with where you redeem them. We had a bit of trouble figuring it out, but we discovered the answer and learned they’re connected to Whispering Keys and opening Silent Chests in Diablo 4.
How to Get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4
Murmuring Obols are a world event drop that you can get in Diablo 4. It’s a currency that drops from completing the random world events that appear as you make your way between the various towns and when you’re exploring the open world of Diablo 4, so you’ll want to spend some time away from the main story quests to properly farm for these items. When a random world event appears, jump into it to fight off any hungry demons that spawn in the area and see if you can’t get other players to help you out.
After completing the random world event, there’s a good chance Murmuring Obols will drop for you and anyone else who participated. If you want to see how many Murmuring Obols you carry in Diablo 4, look for it under your Character Sheet. There will be a spot underneath the Materials and Stats page.
When you have enough, the next stop you need to make is to speak with the Purveyor of Curiosities, who will accept all of the Murmuring Obols you have in Diablo 4 and offers you a variety of rewards, such as Whispering Keys.
Where to Find Purveyor of Curiosities in Diablo 4 – Opening Silent Chests
The Purveyor of Curiosities is not at a single location. Instead, they consistently appear in multiple locations throughout the many cities in Diablo 4. You can turn in your Murmuring Obols to them for a variety of gear they have for sale, or you can choose to purchase the Whispering Keys. These Whispering Keys are how you go about opening Silent Chests, which randomly appear while exploring the overworld.
If you need new gear, grabbing it from the Purveyor of Curiosities is not a bad idea, but we also stress having a few Whispering Keys on you. There’s always the chance you might stumble across a Silent Chest while exploring the game, and you want to make sure you can crack it open to discover the loot inside during your travels, mainly because there’s a good chance it might contain better gear.
