How to get and use Max Mushrooms in Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor

More mushrooms for your Max Soup.

Max Mushrooms are a plant you will find growing around the Isle of Armor in Pokémon Sword and Shield. You want to collect them to unlock your Pokémon’s Gigantamax potential, allowing them to become even more powerful in a battle. The Gigantamax form also comes with a nifty new appearance, too.

You will initially encounter Max Mushrooms by progressing through the story of Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s DLC expansion, The Isle of Armor, during the second trial of the Master Dojo. The head instructor there, Mustard, will ask you to retrieve them from the Warm-up Tunnel in the Training Lowlands. After you obtain the mushrooms, battle your new rival, and return them to Mustard at the Master Dojo, you will unlock free access to Max Soup. The soup is how you will be able to turn a Dynamax-capable Pokémon into its Gigantamax forms.

You can use the Max Soup whenever you wish to by speaking to the trainer who stands next to the pot in the building’s kitchen. He requires you have at least three Max Mushrooms in your inventory before agreeing to make it. You can find Max Mushrooms all over The Isle of Armor by doing raid battles, and they’re hard to miss. Rather than small, shiny objects on the ground or being PokéBalls, a Max Mushroom is the large, brightly colored fungal growth you can find, pictured below.

We have a guide available to share how to farm and acquire more Max Mushrooms.
