How to fix the black screen issue in Star Wars: Squadrons

A game breaking problem with a simple solution.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The launch for Star Wars: Squadrons was not the smoothest, but it went off far better than other games have had. It didn’t have any initial issues, and players haven’t reported too many problems when loading into a multiplayer match. It’s mostly smooth, but there are still a few bumps in the road, notably players encountering a black screen when they start the game. It happens shortly after the first cutscene at the start of the game. Star Wars: Squadrons goes completely blank, and players can’t do anything more except exit out of the game and try again, but the problem persists.

Before you attempt to reinstall and uninstall it, there are some other things you can try. Other players have been attempting to see if the files somewhere were messed up, but the problem continues. Instead, you need to load up Star Wars: Squadrons, and wait for the problem to happen. When it does, for some players, they were able to hit ALT+TAB to jump out of the game, and then back into it shortly after. It’s a quick solution that fixed the problem.

Other players have reported that they had to switch the game from full-screen mode to a windowed mode. To do this, without access to the in-game menu to directly control it, they had to hit the ALT+Enter keys simultaneously to move from full-screen to windowed mode. From there, the game ran properly, and they were able to make it into the menu. From there, they were able to switch back to the full-screen mode upon successfully making it through.

These two solutions prove to be more useful and beneficial than attempting to restart your computer or reinstalling the game to your hardware. After you successfully load into the game, try messing around with the graphics settings to optimize your experience and try to prevent the issue from occurring again in the future.
