With an internet connection, your brand new gaming console will only ever be living up to about half of it’s potential. Patches for games and system updates for the console itself are a vital part of gaming life in modern times, so you’ll want to connect to the internet.

If you plan on connecting via Wi-Fi, you can simply follow the steps below to get this done. You will need your Wi-Fi details, such as the network name and password, so make sure you have them handy before you start.

  1. Press the Xbox button in the middle of your controller and cycle all the way to the right in the new menu to your profile.
  2. Click the “Settings” option.
  3. On the General Tab, click “Network Settings.”
  4. Click “Set Up Wireless Network.”
  5. Find your connection and follow the steps. If everything is input successfully, you’ll be connected to your Wi-Fi.

Now, a quick note on Wi-Fi and gaming in general. For the most part, a Wi-Fi connection will not deliver the same speeds as a wired connection. This will impact your download speeds and your connections to game servers. We would strongly suggest using a wired connection via the consoles ethernet port, if possible.

Obviously, some folks out there simply won’t be able to do this, which is understandable. If you can, it will lead to a better overall gaming experience, however.
