In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla you assume to role of pillaging Viking named Eivor, who you can play as a male or female. Eivor starts their journey and leads their Viking clan against the neighboring Saxon kingdoms, and other smaller villages in the surrounding area. While Eivor is out raiding to obtain goods and plunder, they need a place to take it all back and properly use it. That’s where the new settlements come into play.

The settlements serve as your hub in the game. At these locations, you’ll be able to see the citizens you settle alongside as they take care of their families and attempt to take on a new life. While Vikings were deadly warriors who conquered new locations, they were settlers and were seeking new land to prosper on with their loved ones. Ubisoft will highlight the lifestyle of Vikings as both warriors and those who were seeking an ideal living environment, away from their homeland.

At the settlement, you’ll be able to take part in various activities, such as doing drinking games, improving your armor, your longship, and engaging in the primary quests in the game. Valhalla pulls away from how Odysessy worked where players were investigating all of Greece to defog the map. Now, in Valhalla, the center of focus is on your settlement and what happens to it throughout your journey.

You will return to this location after your adventures. You’ll spend some time in a new location, exploring it, obtaining new resources and supplies, and then bring it back to your settlement to better everyone living there, along with the many upgrades you’ll need to unlock to improve Eivor. You have the choice between bringing your gear back to your settlement or taking it with you as you engage other bandit settlements or Saxon kingdoms with your raiding party.

Valhalla is expected to release sometime during Holiday 2020 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and for the PC through UPlay, Google Stadia, and Epic Games Store. You can preorder your copy right now.
