Do I need Xbox Live for online multiplayer in CrossfireX?
Can I play without an online account?
CrossfireX is getting released on Xbox One soon. Before its full launch, the first-person shooter is getting two beta tests — a closed beta and open beta — for players to try out a few maps and its online multiplayer component.
As these betas will pit you against other players trying out the game for the first time on Microsoft’s console, you’ll want to know if you need an Xbox Live account to play. Building on that, you will also want to find out if an Xbox Live Gold account is necessary. Grab your gun, soldier, and let’s take a look.
Is an Xbox Live Gold account needed to play CrossfireX?
As CrossfireX‘s two beta tests will play out online, you will need an Xbox Live account to play. It doesn’t matter whether you partake in the closed beta, open beta, or both. You will have to have an Xbox Live account to help test the game out.
That’s not all, though. You will also need to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber to play CrossfireX. We know that you’ll need one as the official CrossfireX Twitter account revealed as much.
In a tweet heralding the start of the closed beta – you can find out more about both beta tests in this guide – it was confirmed that Xbox Live Gold was required for online multiplayer. It makes sense that, given this is an online multiplayer test, you will need an Xbox Live Gold account to try it out. You can have an Xbox Live account but, without a Gold subscription, you can’t play the vast majority of online multiplayer titles on Xbox One.
If you don’t have one, you can always buy an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Alternatively, you can purchase an Xbox Game Pass subscription, which comes with a Gold account included. Either way, if you want to play either CrossfireX beta, you will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
