Ursaring can be caught in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, either through finding it out in the field or through a Tera Raid, but can it be evolved into Ursaluna? This confusion is because Ursaluna was introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus with no obvious ways to acquire it in Paldea.
In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, if you want to evolve an Ursaring into an Ursaluna, you must acquire a Peat Block item. With this in hand, you must catch an Ursaring and take it out at night. Once the full moon hangs in the sky, you can use the Peat Block on the Ursaring to evolve it into Ursaluna. The problem is that the Peat Block isn’t available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, so how can you acquire an Ursaluna in the game?
Can You Evolve Ursaring Into Ursaluna In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?
Unfortunately, you cannot evolve an Ursaring into an Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. To evolve Ursaring, you would need Peat Block and a full moon, and unfortunately, moon cycles and Peat Block simply do not exist in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Perhaps this mechanic will make a return in future Pokemon games, but for now, Ursaring remains unable to evolve.
Some Pokemon games introduced new ways to let Pokemon with special region-specific evolution methods evolve in new games, such as Leafeon & Glaceon now needing evolution stones instead of their original environmental rocks, but no such alternate method exists for evolving Ursaring in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
We also don’t expect Ursaring’s evolution method to be added in future patches unless developer Game Freak decides to release more DLC after The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion, but we doubt it.

Can Ursaring Evolve into Bloodmoon Ursaluna?
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC introduced a new form for Ursaluna, Bloodmoon Ursaluna, but this new addition has not included any new method to evolve Ursaring. You still cannot evolve Ursaring in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s expansion regardless of Ursaluna’s form.
Instead, there is only one Bloodmoon Ursaluna in The Teal Mask, and you’ll encounter it as a scripted event while following Perrin’s questline. Just talk to her after registering 150 Pokemon in your Kitakami Pokedex, and you’ll start your journey to obtaining your very own Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
How to Get Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
You cannot evolve an Ursaring in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but there are still ways to get it into the game. Pokemon Home functionality is now available in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, allowing you to trade an Ursaluna from Pokemon Legends: Arceus into Pokemon Scarlet & Violet through Pokemon Home. It’s also possible to trade for one with another player, should they own an Ursaluna in their copy of Scarlet or Violet.
If you own Pokemon Legends: Arceus, you can evolve Ursaring by using a Peat Block on it during a full moon. From here, you can use the free Pokemon Home app on the Switch to transfer it to your copy of Pokemon Scarlet or Violet. Similarly, if you use Pokemon GO and have caught a Teddiursa in the app, you can evolve it to Ursaring by using 50 Teddiursa candies and then evolve Ursaring to Ursaluna by using 100 Teddiursa candies during a real-world full moon (there’s a real-world full moon about once every 28 days). From there, you’ll want to transfer it through the Pokemon Home app on your mobile device.
How to Get Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
If you’re looking for Bloodmoon Ursaluna, the only way to get it is through its special cutscene encounter during Perrin’s questline in The Teal Mask. Bloodmoon Ursaluna does not exist in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and is not currently obtainable in Pokemon GO, so there is nowhere to transfer it to outside of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet at present.
What Makes Ursaluna So Special?
There is a very good reason to want an Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, as it’s a powerful Pokemon in battle and in the competitive scene. This is because it has a high Attack stat, which can be bolstered further with its Guts Ability and the use of the Flame Orb. The Guts Ability increases a Pokemon’s Attack stat by 1.5 if they are afflicted by a status effect while ignoring the Attack reduction of the burn effect. If the trainer gives their Ursaluna a Flame Orb to hold, they will be burned by it, sending their Attack stat through the roof.
Ursaluna’s new Bloodmoon form has only increased its viability in competitions even further with it’s new Blood Moon signature attack, which does a whopping 140 base damage. And thanks to it’s Mind’s Eye ability, this Normal-type attack can even hit Ghost-type Pokemon.

Acquiring an Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet at launch was impossible, but that has been rectified by Pokemon Home compatibility and The Teal Mask DLC. There’s still a bit of messing around involved, and it’s frustrating that you can’t just evolve an Ursaring in-game, but at least players have an option for bringing the almighty Hisuian bear into the Paldea region.
