Schools out, some workplaces are closing on Fridays (if they’re open at all), and it’s too hot to spend time in the sun. Well, maybe you should spend some time outside, but when you need to beat the heat, it’s a great season to play some video games. PlayStation is offering deep deals on many excellent games from now until July 23, so check out our round-up of 10 titles you won’t want to miss.
Bloodborne Complete Edition Bundle
Bloodborne might have released back in 2015, but there’s a case to be made for this bloody masterpiece being the best game of the PlayStation 4 generation. It’s so tonally and mechanically cohesive, and even after all these years, it still plays like a dream. In fact, playing the game feels quite like being in a dream (or nightmare). This bundle includes the superlative DLC, The Old Hunters, for 50% off at $17.49. It’s not an easy game, but if it clicks with you, you’ll be loving it for years on end.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Ultimate Edition
The Assassin’s Creed series has been going on so long you’d be forgiven if you’d passed on the latest entry when it came out in 2018. It’s a bit of a departure from the earlier entries in the franchise, but if you’re looking for a juggernaut of an RPG, this is the closest a game has come to successfully aping something like The Witcher 3. There is so much to do in the base game, and the Ultimate Edition gives you even more with the season pass. It even includes the Assassin’s Creed III Remaster! That’s quite a steal for 75% off at $29.99.
Far Cry 3 Classic Edition
New Far Cry games might not have all that much magic and innovation anymore, but if you never played this landmark rip-off of Alex Garland’s novel, The Beach, you can now get Far Cry 3 Classic Edition for 90% off at $2.99. It’s considered a classic for a reason and costs about the same as a slice of pizza. Check it out for the memories, or if you’ve never played it before.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint Ultimate Edition
For your premier tactical shooter with tons to do between campaign modes, cooperative play, and PvP, look no further than Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. This edition includes lots of extra content for both single and multiplayer modes and is currently available for huge savings: 67% off for $39.59.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a return to form of sorts for the Resident Evil series. After the success of Resident Evil 4 for the GameCube, the franchise became much more action-centric than it’s predecessors, but this seventh mainline installment ratchets up the survival aspect to horrifying effect. With Resident Evil Village on its way to next-gen consoles, you’re going to want to catch up with the story and play Resident Evil 7: Biohazard if you haven’t already. You can get it for 50% off at $9.99. The season pass is currently discounted as well.
The Jak and Daxter trilogy
For a throwback to the PlayStation 2 era, you can’t go wrong with the Jak and Daxter series. These games were masterpieces in their time and have aged surprisingly well. Pick up each entry of the trilogy separately for 50% off at $7.49, and next time you get into a debate about which PS2 game was the best, surprise everyone by reminding them it was Jak II. You will be correct.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Zombie Chronicles Edition
There are a lot of Call of Duty games out there featured in different sub-series and made by various studios. The third Black Ops game might not be the latest, but it’s got a thriving online community and arguably the best Zombies mode. This edition comes with all the Zombies you could ask for with remastered maps from Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Pick it up now for 67% off at $19.79.
STAR WARS Jedi Fallen Order Deluxe Edition
A surprisingly good Star Wars game (and one entirely free of micro-transactions), Jedi Fallen Order has a little something for everyone. It’s got some Uncharted style platforming, some simplified Dark Souls inspired combat, and a “canonical” Star Wars story. You can get the Deluxe Edition for 45% off at $38.49.
Dark Souls III Deluxe Edition
Or you could get an actual Dark Souls game. Long time fans of the series might shout at you that the first one had the best level design and that the second one is either the worst or secretly the best (it is the best), but it’s hard to deny that Dark Souls III is the most welcoming for new players. The more obtuse mechanics have been smoothed out to a degree, and it features the crispest, quickest combat of the series. The edition includes the exceptional DLC. You won’t want to miss it and get it all now for 75% off at $21.24.
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag
Maybe you passed on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and aren’t so into how the franchise has recently leaned into the RPG genre. If that’s the case, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is probably the best Assassin’s Creed game for you. It’s got slick combat that feels like the originals and some of the best naval combat in games, period. This game has aged spectacularly, and you can get it now for 70% off at $8.99.
There’s more out there available for discounted rates through the July Savings special, but these are our recommended titles. Check them out while the deals are still available!
