In this guide, you get all 37 Legendary Chests Locations in main regions like Midgard, Pass, The Mountain, Alfheim, Helheim, Tyrs Temple, etc including sub-regions like The River Pass, Shores of Nine, Foothills, etc.

Legendary Chest rewards you with Runes and in God of War, there are around 37 of them. These chests are scattered throughout the map, and finding them will reward you heavy/light runic attacks and resources for upgrades. Some chest is locked by ciphers, so you have to find them first which is mentioned in this guide, and some are easy to access. Most of this Legendary Chest are hidden and locked behind puzzles, but we bring you puzzle solutions and the location to find it easily.

All Legendary Chest Location In The River Pass (Midgard)

Below you can get the list of five Legendary Chest Location in The River pass region.

River Pass Legendary Chest 1 Location:

Down the path where you fought with a Reaver before crossing the bridge that collapses follow Atreus, he will point you towards the chest. The chest has Runic Gem: Hel’s Touch.

River Pass Legendary Chest 2 Location:

After entering the Witch’s Cave for the first time go down towards the bridge and then take left that will lead you to the boat. You have to hop across the stone platforms, there is a Legendary Chest at the end. The chest has Talisman of Concentrated Vitality.

River Pass Legendary Chest 3 Location:

This one is possible to access once you have Light and Shock arrows ready. You have to return to the Witch’s Cave, go to the bottom of the floor and use the Light Arrows to activate the bridge. You will have to locate a wall with sap, you can use the nearby crystal to destroy it. Go to the left of the Hidden Chamber of Odin, and look for blue roots.

Look up to the left side and you will spot a breakable wooden block. Break it and Atreus will climb up. Next, you can see him on a ledge, you have to the giant stone so that he can move to the other side near a sand bowl. Once Atreus has done inspecting, look on the ceiling for runes behind the wooden boards, break it with the axe. Atreus will solve the riddle and the platform will lower down, jump across to get the Legendary Chest in an alcove ahead. The chest has Murder of Crows – a Runic Summon for Atreus.

River Pass Legendary Chest 4 Location:

From the location where you got the previous chest, you will have to destroy a red sap wall and climb up through the well. You will reach near the Witch’s house. The next Legendary Chest is located on the other side of the huge turtle. The chest is covered in a rubble just near the sand bowl. You have to locate a chain to climb on a ledge, and head to the end. Cross the raven and you can overlook the Witch’s House, and you can also spot the runes upon the rocks. This will solve the riddle and the chest will appear. The chest has Murder of Storm of the Elks – a Runic Summon.

River Pass Legendary Chest 5 Location:

For the final Legendary Chest of this region you will have to obtain Blade of Chaos first and then learn to trap Winds of Hel. After having this return to Witch’s Cave and go to the well where you will find a Cipher Chest. Locate the Hel’s Wind and grab and take to the vessel on the left of the bridge that leads to Witch’s house. Go down in the center of middle-lower cave, cross to the other side and place the window on the upper platform above Hel Bramble. Destroy the bramble and then move the giant stone to the middle. Once again you can grab the Wind of Hel and jump to the other side and place it on a stone vault. This will reveal the Legendary Chest. The chest has Rampage of the Furies – a new Light Runic Attack.

All Legendary Chest Location In Shores of Nine

You have to go down on the outer ring of Tyr’s temple and run towards the Northwest side facing Asgard Tower. You will find a Legendary Chest that is surrounded by Hel Bramble. You will have to break the roots to open the chest. The chest has Weightless War Handles, a rare blades pommels for Blade of Chaos.

All Legendary Chest Location In Iron Cove

There is only one Legendary Chest located in Iron Cove, it will be available once the water has receded two times in Lake of Nine. You will have to climb up on the top platform to locate the sealed Rune Door. It is covered up by Scorn Poles. Near the Scorn Poles, you can use the red urns to blow up and take the Poison Wolves who are guarding the door. For opening the Rune door you will have to hit different rune mechanism that matches the sealed door. For the first seal look on the left on the path that will take you back to the upper deck on the front of the wrecked ship.

Hit the mechanism to get “B”. Return back to the ship and then look for red urn under the ship that is next to the Scorn Pole, explode it and go up on top of the ship. Look down to the left and you will see another rune mechanism, hit it to get “P”. For the last one jump on the other side of the wrecked ship and look left over the side of the ship. You will see red urns, behind that is covering the rune mechanism. There is a single paddle, go down and on the left of rune use it to get ‘”E”. This will open up the Rune door. You can get a heavy runic attack for the axe in here.

All Legendary Chest Location In Iron Cove

There is only one Legendary Chest located in Iron Cove, it will be available once the water has receded two times in Lake of Nine. You will have to climb up on the top platform to locate the sealed Rune Door.

All Legendary Chest Location In Isle of Death

Isle of Death Legendary Chest 1 Location:

Once water is down twice, you have to go back to the island where the original shore was, the Isle of Death. Once you are there you have to walk below the ship wreckage, slide down using the rope and then you will get access to the Legendary Chest. The chest has rare pommel Ymir’s Breath.

Isle of Death Legendary Chest 2 Location:

For the second one, you will have to clear up the bramble next to the brazier from the favor Unfinished Business. Just use the Blade of Chaos to burn the bramble and you can access the chest. The chest has Explosive Grips of Fire, a legendary blades pommel.

All Legendary Chest Location In Stone Falls

Stone Falls Legendary Chest 1 Location:

You will have to re-explore the area near Lake of Nine when the water precedes twice. For the first Legendary Chest, you will have to reach the dock as the first time water goes down. You will have to go straight and locate chains that will lift the gate. As you pull the chain one gate will open and another one on the back will close. To unlock this you will have to kill the Revenant and Wurms on the other side and search the raised bridge. Throw the axe at the anchor point to lower the bridge and get back to the chain. Lower the close gate and use the bridge. You have to get back to the area where you fought the Revenants and find the lifted Gate. The chest inside will give you Golden Talisman of protection.

Stone Falls Legendary Chest 2 Location:

For the second done you will have to return to Stone Falls to locate the giant wheel that is covered in red sap. This will be available when the water has gone down twice. Now using the water wheel inland, you can hit the sap to break it and access the chest behind. You will get Deadly Grip of Fury Axe pommel in it.

All Legendary Chest Location In Veithurgard

You can find one Legendary Chest here, make your way to Veithurgard, where you will have to defeat Fire Troll. The troll will shoot lave waves on you, you can use the axe on the troll’s feet when it is spurting lava. After defeating the troll it will drop a key, take that and go to the large double door. There is a chamber in the back where you will find the chest. In the chest you will get Light Runic Attack, Leviathan’s Wake.

All Legendary Chest Location In Foothills

Foothills Legendary Chest 1 Location:

You will have to locate the snowy ruins just before the mountain where you will fight an Ogre. After fighting with it look on the left side you will see a pile of rubble next to the red urn. You can blow it up and clear the debris. On the left side of the coffin, you will also spot two Scorn Poles, and you will come across another urn you will have to blast to cross the gap. Both poles around are blocking the Legendary Chest, so you have to freeze one who is nearest to spot with an urn behind. Blow it up and you get rid of the pole. You can freeze another one and access the chest. You will get a Light Runic Attack, Charge of the White Bear.

Foothills Legendary Chest 2 Location:

From Sindri’s Shop head up towards the wall along the path lined with Scorn Poles. On the right of the path, you will reach a sealed stone tomb. Look on the left and you will see Hel Bramble which is blocking a container that has no wind. Now return to the area with some coffins around and you can trap the Winds of Hel there which is behind some Hel Bramble. Carry it to the stone tomb to unlock it. You will get a Light Runic Attack, Blast of Hephaestus in it.

All Legendary Chest Location In Alfheim

There are around 5 Legendary Chest in Alfhiem. You can find the locations of each of the below.

Alfheim Legendary Chest 1 Location:

Once you are in the Ringed Temple Trench you will have to check the cell rooms that are on the side of the lift. One of the room will have a broken mechanism, and other can be used to unlock the cages. Just go through the cells, in one of the cells you will get Hacksliver on a corpse in one room. The other one has as a blocked path to the chest. Throw the axe at the root that is blocking the chest, then return to the center room and go to the cell with the blocked doorway. You can call your axe back and hit the roots to unlock the door. The chest will give you a Heavy Runic Attack, Thaizi’s Talon.

Alfheim Legendary Chest 2 Location:

This one is located on the platform that is below the main light bridge that will take you to the temple. You can find it on the left of the platform once you are fighting to clear the roots that are blocking the light crystals. In the chest you will get Light Runic Attack, Njord’s Tempest.

Alfheim Legendary Chest 3 Location:

After you had done restoring the Light of Alfhiem you will have to walk around the temple core to destroy the roots and activate the bridge to the main entrance. From the core command Atreus to attack the new crystal on the top ring that will give you access to the doorway. You will have to face a few Dark Elves there, and there is a guard near to the chest. In this chest, you will get a Light Runic Attack, Strike of the Utgard.

Alfheim Legendary Chest 4 Location:

Outside the Ringed Temple in the lake take the boat and go to the Northwest beach towards Light of Elf Shore. Look for a path on the right that will take you to the long tunnels. You will have to break some roots in the path and on the other end of the tunnel. Go on the platform overlooking the beach, you will find a chest there. This chest will give you a Heavy Runic Attack, Frost Giant’s Frenzy.

Alfheim Legendary Chest 5 Location:

Take the boat to the southeast side of the lake that will take you to Light Elf Sanctuary. There is a door on the left blocked by roots. Go to higher grounds bypassing the gate and then walk right around a balcony overlooking lake back to the bridge. Cross the bridge and then look down so that you can hit all the roots in a single shot. You will see a new tunnel to the side that will take you to a room with the chest. The chest is covered by three pulsating cores, two of these cores are on separate hanging bars. You will have to use the wheel mechanism to rotate the bars, just rotate them till they align facing the stationary core at the top. Once they align just hit them with the axe and you will unlock the chest. You will get a rare talisman “Amulet of Kvasir” in the chest, it will slow down the time upon perfect dodge.

All Legendary Chest Location In Fafnir’s Storeroom

There is a single chest you can find in Fafnir’s Storeroom while playing the Fafnir’s Hoard quest. For the chest, you will have to finish the quest first, and then cross the main bridge to reach the room on the new path. Once the final bridge appears to cross it and you will enter an arena type area. The chest is on the right side, inside you will get a Light Runic Attack, Wrath of the Frost Ancient.

All Legendary Chest Location In Volunder Mines

During Second Hand Soul quest you will find one Legendary Chest in Volunder Mines, you will have to enter the mines and face a boss a Soul Reaver in it. You can kill the boss by attacking the exposed chest and throwing up explosive rocks back on it until it is stunned. Once you kill the Soul Reaver look along the edge of the arena and you will spot the chest. The chest will give you a Light Runic Attack, “Fury of the Ice Troll”.

All Legendary Chest Location In The Mountain

There are around 3 Legendary Chest in The Mountain. You can find the locations of each of the below.

The Mountain Legendary Chest 1 Location:

For the first chest, you will have to find the mine cart. This will move the lift up towards the center lift room. Push the minecart till you can create a platform that will take you to the upper area where you will see a stuck rock. Pass the upper platform and look on the left side of the chest. This chest will give you a Runic Summon for Atreus, the Falcon’s Dive.

The Mountain Legendary Chest 2 Location:

After fighting with the Dragon on the mountain, Sindri will give Atreus Shock Arrows. You will have to enter the new cave and look right for World Tree Sap. You will spot the chest in a small room, you have to break the tree sap using the shock arrows. The chest will give you a Light Runic Attack, Tyr’s Revenge.

The Mountain Legendary Chest 3 Location:

Once you are back to the Mountain, you will have to go to the central lift room and clear the Hel Bramble. Clearing will give you access to the second lift that will take you to the new area. Climb up on the platform on the right and then on the right locate the door where an Ogre will attack you. In this room, you will find a stone tomb that is sealed by Windows of Hel. You can find them on the level down, just break some Hel Bramble to right to find a vessel you can carry and place it near the platform that will lead you to the upper level. Once again return and break through the wooden wall near the Hel Bramble and you will get a chest that will give you some Hacksilver and Winds of Hel. Once again pull out the wind and place it on the new vessel you just place and climb up. Go up and you will see a tomb with the chest. It will give you a Heavy Runic Attack for Blades of Chaos, Hyperion Slam.

All Legendary Chest Location In Thamurs Corpse

Hereafter passing Sindri’s first shop, you will have to head towards the platform that will lead you to a building where you will fight the first Traveler. Defeat him and pull the large stock block away from the doorway. Align it next to the Giant’s pendant. Look on the side panel, throw your axe to title the pendant and then jump towards it after the climb on the block. From the pendant jump down to the upper balcony and you will get the chest. You will get a Heavy Runic Attack, Blessing of the Frost.

All Legendary Chest Location In Light Elf

You get one Legendary Chest in this region. Light Elf Outpost will appear after the water level of Lake of Nine has gone twice. You will have to use the light crystals to create a path to reach the top of the island. You will find the chest there, it will give you a Runic Summon, Bitter Squirrel. It will summon spectral squirrel that will unearth consumable. You might also get a Legendary material, Pristine Scales of the Realm that will help you to upgrade your armor.

All Legendary Chest Location In Buri’s Storeroom

Buri’s Storeroom Legendary Chest 1 Location:

At Buri’s Storeroom, you will spot a huge Nornir door. You will need to ring three bells to open it, two bells are on the left and right of the door. One is hidden behind the gate to the left side. To lower the gate go back and then go around and look for red sap, use shock arrows to break them. Once done get back to the front and climb the stairs and you will see a wheel. Spin it to get a gap you can pass through using your boat. Once you are at the beach lower the gate and go back to the front door. Ring all three bells and unlock the door. You will get a Heavy Runic Attack, Glaive Storm in it.

Buri’s Storeroom Legendary Chest 2 Location:

The second one is covered with bramble and you will have to burn it using Blades of Chaos to access it. You will have to fight with Level 7/8 Draugrs in it along with a Level 7 Traveler. Kill them first and then you can open the chest. You will get a light runic attack, Rage of the Titans in it.

All Legendary Chest Location In Helheim

There are three legendary Chest in Helhiem, locations are listed below.

Helheim Legendary Chest 1 Location:

From Tyr’s temple, you will have to go to the middle of the bridge that will take you to Helhiem. There you will get a wall of Hel’s Bramble, clear it and look on the left you will spot the chest. The chest will give you Light Runic Attack for the Blade of Chaos, Spartan Charge.

Helheim Legendary Chest 2 Location:

Go towards the bridge that will take you back to Try’s Temple. You will have to use Winds of Hel here. Look on the right of the bridge, you will see some Hel-Reavers clear them and look for Winds of Hel. It is located on the first slab on the right side. Grab it and run to the slab on the left and place it there. Grab it once again and go ahead until you spot a statue with a shield, and the vessel in the center. Grab the Winds of Hel once more and jump over the hurdle towards the next statue on the right. Look on its back to place the wind. Once again grab it and go towards the middle of the bridge where you will see a large horn, look up in the inner ring where you will find the vessel to place the wind. Once done take the wind and go to the left of the bridge to the dead end, you will find a spot to place it once again. To grab it run on the other side and sprint across the bridge to the stairs, look for the slab above on the right as you go down. Once done just head down to the lower balcony and turn left and throw it to open the stone seal of the chest. You will get a Light Runic attack for Blades of Chaos, Cyclone of Chaos in it.

Helheim Legendary Chest 3 Location:

You will get this chest once you return back to Helheim after Atreus is all right. Just enter the main path to the Bridge of the Damned and go up on the first upper platform. You will once again spot a tiny bridge that is going right towards the red wall of sap. Use the shock arrows to explode it, and look for the chain on the other side. You will find another small wall of red sap there, explode it and you can get access to the chest. You will get an Epic Talisman, The Charm of Infinite in it.

Helheim Legendary Chest 4 Location:

For the final chest of this region, you will have to play Escape from Helheim quest. The ship you are on while escaping Helheim will get stuck on a platform and you will have to find a way to free it. Once you enter the tower you will get a spinning mechanism. Throw the axe to raise the platform, and then look for a balcony on the opposite side of the tower. You will find the chest there, you will get a Light Runic Attack for Blade of Chaos, Icarus Storm.

All Legendary Chest Location In Tyr’s Temple

There are two legendary Chest in Tyr’s Temple, locations are listed below.

Tyr’s Temple Legendary Chest 1 Location:

In an objective you will have to get the Black Rune, then two Grendels will attack you. Kill them and return to the chamber where you were trapped before to locate a platform that will give you access to the chest in this area. You will get Weightless Grips of Protection.

Tyr’s Temple Legendary Chest 2 Location:

You will have to visit Tyr’s Hidden Chamber for this chest, go down to the lift where you will spot two chains. You will have to break them, turn left through the hall of rotating blades to the room beyond and search for a stone tomb. On the left one, you will spot Winds of Hel. Pull out the winds when the saw blade in the hall is retracted to a corner and return to the stone tomb in the previous chamber. Cross the blade to find another win and return back to the stone slab. You will open up the chest which will give you a Heavy Runic Attack for Blade of Chaos, Hyperion Grapple.

All Legendary Chest Location In Konunsgard

There is only one chest in Konunsgard, and this area will be accessible after completing all the side quest given to you by Dwarves. You will have to play Hail to King Favor. Go to the stronghold which will be one of the objectives of the quest, and then go to the throne room. At the end of the room there is a king’s throne, push to the side and you will find the king and a few items inside. Grab the lore scroll from the king’s corpse and return outside through the secret tunnel made by the king. Outside follow the path below the waterfall and you will find the chest. This chest will give you a Heavy Runic attack for Blades of Chaos, Prometheus Flame.
