The Xbox Series X is at least one of the next-generation consoles coming in 2020. While there are plenty of rumors and predictions about what games are coming, we know quite a few slated already to come to the console. We should also note that all Xbox One games will be playable on the Xbox Series X, as well as any backward compatible Xbox and Xbox 360 games. Here are the games we know so far that are coming to Xbox Series X.

Note: Some games like Ori and the WIll of the Wisps, Destiny 2, and Control will receive Xbox Series X enhancements to be playable on Xbox Series X or via backwards compatibility, but since they originally released on Xbox One they will not listed here. The list would go on much too long if we listed every single game playable on the console with Microsoft promising over a thousand games on the console at launch.

First party games

The below games are being developed under the umbrella of Xbox Games Studios.

Halo Infinite

The first Halo game in five years will release alongside the Xbox Series X this holiday season. The first gameplay was revealed during the July 23rd Xbox Games Showcase and Master Chief looks better than ever. He has a new grapple hook that will latch onto enemies and pull him towards them and we saw new weapons and gadgets on the battlefield. Halo: Infinite will also have some open world elements, slightly going away from the linear aspects of the past games.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Alongside the unveiling of the Xbox Series X name and design was the announcement trailer for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. This trailer shows the power of Series X and how gorgeous the sequel will look, so there are not many clues for the story. Senua appears in front of people, but I wouldn’t say it is likely she found a new tribe to become a part. We also see plenty of Northmen (the people who killed her lover Dillion) traveling through an area that seems like the setting of the first game. There are more questions than answers with Hellblade II, but the in-engine footage looks beautiful.

During the July 23rd Xbox Games Showcase, Ninja Theory revealed the game will take place in Iceland, but no other details were given.

Avowed

Avowed is Obsidian Entertainment’s next big RPG. It will be set in a fantasy world in the first-person perspective. Not much is known about it at this time, but it is being promised as “Obsidian at their best.”

Everwild

Everwild is Rare’s next project and will heavily focus on nature and magic. The latest trailer above has shown the game’s beautiful art style, but as of this writing we have no idea what the gameplay will be like.

Forza Motosport

Forza Motorsport may potentially be a reboot of the series, although how Turn 10 Studios are handling that is unknown at the moment. All we have as of this writing is the announcement trailer showing in-engine footage above.

Fable

The long rumored Fable reboot was confirmed to be in the works with the above trailer that seems to point that the game will retain the original series’ style of humor. Playground Games, the makers of Forza Horizon, are developing the game and that is about all we know at the moment.

State of Decay 3

State of Decay 3 is the continuation of the zombie survival series. While no gameplay was shown, it appears the virus has mutated further and is now affecting the wildlife.

Second party

The following games are being developed via a partnership between Microsoft and various studios to be released exclusively on Xbox platforms (at least at launch in some cases).

Tell Me Why

Tell Me Why is a new story-based game being made by Dontnod, the makers of Life is Strange. The game focuses on twins Alyson and Tyler as they unravel traumatic experiences of their childhood. The game takes place in Alaska, and like Life is Strange, will feature some kind of supernatural power for the two.

As Dusk Falls

As Dusk Falls is an interactive drama and is the debut title for a new studio called INTERIOR/NIGHT, which is made up of former Quantic Dream members. The story focuses on the clashing of two families set over thirty years in a small Arizona town.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

This beloved PC franchise is making a return to Chernobyl. Not much is known about the game outside of the setting and there are some supernatural forces present.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

The makers of the popular Vermintide games are making a new game that appears to have the same Left 4 Dead style gameplay of four people in a squad fighting through hordes of enemies. This time, it appears to be some kind of mutant monsters are hunting you down.

Tetris Effect: Connected

While Tetris Effect exclusively released on the PlayStation 4, Connected is a new version of the game that will have a brand new multiplayer mode exclusively for Xbox platforms when it releases.

The Medium

The Medium is a psychological horror game from the makers of The Blair Witch game. You play as the medium, Marianne, who is stuck living between the real world and the spiritual world. She is investigating the location of a child’s murder and will encounter some nightmarish entities during her journey.

The Gunk

From the creators of Steamworld, The Gunk sees you exploring an alien planet that seems to be dealing with a pollution problem. You are equipped with an exosuit that has a vacuum for sucking up the black gunk infesting the planet as you bring back natural life to the area.

Scorn

Scorn looks like an H.R. Geiger creep-fest. The trailer is very eerie, with some “interesting” visuals, but gameplay or story details remain a mystery.

The Ascent

The Ascent is a top-down cooperative shooter set in a cyberpunk world. The gameplay reveals the player firing at weird creatures as they fight gangs and corporations trying to take over society.

Second Extinction

Second Extinction is a three-player cooperative shooter where you and your friends gun down mutated dinosaurs that have taken over the planet.

Third party

These titles are being developed via publishers and development teams outside of the Microsoft umbrella.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition

After releasing on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, the beloved Dragon Quest game is finally making its way over to Xbox platforms.

Balan Wonderworld

Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima have launched a brand new development studio under Square Enix and are making an all new 3D platformer called Balan Wonderworld. The game will focus heavily on stage plays and have you take control of over 80 powers depending on the outfit you are wearing.

Starfield

Very little is known about Starfield; besides that, it will be the next big release from Todd Howard and the team at Bethesda. It is also the first new project Bethesda Game Studios will release in over two decades. The teaser trailer shows a structure in orbit of a planet. Expect to see more at E3 2020.

Elder Scrolls VI

If little is known about Starfield, then the newest Elder Scrolls has a minuscule amount known about it. All the teaser trailer reveals is a mountainous area with a castle in it. The highly anticipated follow up to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is known to be releasing after Starfield, so do not expect it to release anytime soon. Potentially we could see more at E3 2020, but I would not count on it.

Watch Dogs: Legion

Watch Dogs: Legion was initially slated to release on Mar. 20, 2020, for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, following a disappointing outing from Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Ubisoft delayed it and two other titles. While we do not know when the new Watch Dogs will release now, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed all three delayed titles will release on both current and next-generation consoles.

Watch Dogs: Legion takes place in London and will allow you to recruit and play as tons of NPCs in the world.

Rainbow Six Quarantine

Rainbow Six: Quarantine is the second Ubisoft game to be delayed in 2020. There was no release date for the game initially, but a trailer was released, hinting at the zombie-like creatures you will be fighting against in the cooperative shooter. It will release on current and next-generation consoles.

Gods and Monsters

Gods and Monsters is the third Ubisoft game delayed in 2020. It was initially supposed to release in February 2020. The game is made by the same studio that made Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and seems to feature fights against Greek mythological creatures. The E3 2019 trailer shows off the more cartoony graphics the game seems to be going. Gods and Monsters will release for current and next-generation consoles.

Assassins Creed Valhalla

Assassins Creed Valhalla is the next game in the long running series from Ubisoft. It is set during the Vikings invasion of England. You play as Eivor, an assassin Viking leading the charge of the invasion. You will be able to lead raids on villages, build up your own settlement, and more.

Battlefield 6

The next Battlefield game will not release until late 2021 at the earliest. During a financial call in October 2019, EA announced that DICE’s next release would not happen until the 2022 fiscal year, which runs from April 1st, 2021, to March 31st, 2022. Nothing else is known besides them saying live service offerings will drive the game.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

Xbox Party Chat Via Phone Now Available

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a narrative-based game that will follow Gollum (or Smeagol) between him finding the one ring of power and losing it to Bilbo during the events of “The Hobbit.” The developers of the game, Daedalic, say the games will be based off of the books and not the Peter Jackson movies so you can expect things to be different than your used to if you’re a fan of the movies. This is also only the first game they will be making in a series. As of now, it is slated to release in 2021 for PC and “all relevant consoles at that time” which would imply a next-generation release.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a Series X launch window game that brings in the series classic over-the-top action and story. Ichi is released from prison for a crime he took the fall for. He is greeted by the boss of the Yakuza, attempting to murder him and now seems to be looking for vengeance.

Bright Memory Infinite

Bright Memory Infinite is a first-person shooter developed by a one-man studio, something truly amazing when you see how great the game looks. It seems to take place in a near-future setting with combat jumping from shooting to swordplay.

Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea is an adventure puzzle game where you play as Norah, a woman trying to find the expedition her husband was on when he went missing. You find yourself on a deserted island you explore to figure out what happened to him.

Chorus

Chorus brings space combat to the next-gen in a game that follows Nara, an ace pilot with a haunted past. She is hunting down a cult that made her the way she is. This one gave us Control-meets-Star Fox vibes.

Scarlet Nexus

Made by Bandai Namco, Scarlet Nexus is an anime-inspired game. You play as Yuito Sumeragi, a person who has psycho-kinetic powers. You use these powers to fight alien-like creatures.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Vampire: The Masquerade returns with its sequel set to launch in the next generation. The cult classic follow-up is set in Seattle, where you have complete control over the kind of vampire you become.

Dirt 5

The next title in the Dirt series is on the way. The racing game will feature both Troy Baker and Nolan North’s voices in its career mode as the pair mentor the driver—and host a podcast featuring real-life celebrities.

Madden NFL 21

While hardly any footage was shown, we know that EA’s annual Madden football franchise is getting a new entry on both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Only a few seconds of in-game footage has been shown so far.

Hitman 3

Agent 47 returns in the conclusion of the Hitman reboot trilogy. The game is coming January 2021 and has confirmed Dubai as one of the locations of the assassination game’s levels.

Resident Evil Village

The Resident Evil franchise is moving forward with Village and brings back past protagonists Ethan and Chris Redfield. Things seem to be going further in a new direction as they did in Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, but expect more classic scares with biomutant monsters.

Pragmata

This new IP from Capcom could easily be mistaken to be made by Hideo Kojima. Regardless, Pragmata looks interesting and seems to revolve around protecting a little girl with supernatural powers.

NBA 2K21

The annual sports franchise, NBA 2K, will be releasing on next-generation consoles.

Little Devil Inside

Adventure for your employer, finding evidence and encountering monsters. We love the creepy nature and art style of this game and are excited to see more on it.

Launch titles

Aside from Halo: Infinite, we have no confirmation of launch titles for the Xbox Series X at this time.
