Mortal Shell, the upcoming action-RPG from developers Cold Symmetry looks like it draws on just the right amount of its inspirations and injects something new into the genre of games that have become known as Soulsborne. You will be stomping around some interesting looking environments swinging large weapons at colossal creatures, all while wearing some very fancy looking armor.

The developers recently announced that the game would be a timed Epic Games Store Exclusive, and is expected to release some time in Q3 2021. It will release on the Epic Games Store for PC, PS4 and Xbox One at the same time, and will come to Steam later. There has been no announcement yet about whether the game would also be available on next-generation consoles.

According to Cold Symmetry, one of the biggest factors in becoming an Epic Games Store exclusive was simple economic prudence. “The primary goals of our studio are to make Mortal Shell the best game it can be and to live another day and keep making awesome games in the future,” the studio said in a statement. “Epic’s financial support, for a small studio like ours, was clearly going to help us achieve those goals, so it was something we had to consider earnestly.”

The good news is that with the announcement of store exclusivity coming a year in advance of the release, we all have plenty of warning about where the game will be available.
