When does the Pokémon Go Battle League season 2 start?

The end of April is bringing with it plenty of changes. Pokémon Go players can expect plenty of new events to arrive in May, but the end of April also marks the end of the game’s first season of its player-versus-player battle league. Trainers from all over the world competed in the various available leagues, each last two weeks. With season 1 nearly set to sunset shortly, when does season 2 begin?
Players won’t have to wait too long. May 1 marks the start of season 2. With it, players have a chance to return to the Great league, the first tier of the battle league, to test their skills against other trainers all over the world to see if they have what it takes. There are a handful of new features, such as the battle league leaderboards, and the ability to qualify for league battles without needing to walk around before receiving a new batch. The Great league, Ultra league, and Master league all last for two weeks.
Here’s the schedule for each one:
- Great league: May 1 to 15
- Ultra league: May 15 to 29
- Master league: May 29 to June 12
Each of the seasons has a different set of rules. The Great league only allows you to use Pokémon with a maximum CP of 1,500, whereas the Ultra league permits you to use any Pokémon up to a maximum of 2,500 CP. Master league, however, grants you the chance to use any Pokémon you have available in your roster, you expect trainers to bring out their best and notably legendary Pokémon to their battles.
At this time, the season 2 rewards for the battle league have not been shared by developer Niantic. Season 1 rewards varied, requiring trainers to reach a certain trainer rank during a season. The rewards ranged from having the chance to encounter rare Pokémon after winning enough battles during their matches, to receiving various unique items. At the end of season 1, players who ranked high enough would receive exclusive items, like the Elite Fast and Charged TMs, giving a trainer the ability to change any Pokémon’s fast or charged move to any of the available options, rather than leaving it up to chance.
As we draw closer to May, we expect to hear more details about the battle league’s second season. The dates listed above may change based on Niantic’s official report about the events.
