Pokémon Go: Best Teams for the Great League – September 2023

You can only use three Pokémon in Pokémon Go's Great League, and this guide shows you some of the best teams you can make.

At the start of Pokémon Go’s Season of Adventures Abound, the Great League returns. With it, you will have the chance to compete against multiple players as they use some of their favorite Pokémon against you in a heated competition.

The premium choices have slightly changed for the start of the Adventures Abound due to multiple move alterations, but not everything is too different. This guide covers the best Pokémon teams to use in Pokémon Go’s Great League during the Season of Adventures Abound.

Best Pokémon for Great League

You can use nearly any Pokémon from your roster, so long as they do not exceed the 1,500 CP limit. This does give you a large amount of flexibility for your team when creating it, so long as you respect the 1,500 CP cap for the Great League.

Pelipper, Gliscor, and Togedemaru

For this team, we’re going to highlight Pelipper, a Pokémon that has become a staple in the Great League. You might want to consider using it on your Great League team to see how it does for you, and we recommend teaming it up with Gliscor and Togedemaru. Gliscor might be the weak link for this team in Pokémon Go, but it’s capable of pulling out some heavy damage, alongside Togedemaru, an excellent Closer Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

  • Pelipper: Wing Attack (fast move), Weather Ball (Water-type), and Hurricane
  • Gliscor: Wing Attack (fast move), Earthquake, and Night Slash
  • Togedemaru: Thunder Shock (fast move), Fell Stinger, and Wild Charge

Medicham, Zangoose, and Regice

Next, we have Medicham, a robust lead Pokémon capable of destroying the competition. Medicham is a superb choice; alongside it, you’ll want to add Zangoose and the legendary Ice-type Pokémon, Regice. Zangoose has plenty of potential as an extremely combat-heavy Switch option, and Regice is a robust option that will take multiple hits to take it down, but it is heavily weak to any Fire-type attacks in Pokémon Go.

  • Medicham: Counter (fast move), ice punch, and psychic
  • Zangoose: Shadow Claw (fast move), Close Combat, and Night Slash
  • Regice: Lock On (fast move), Thunder, and Blizzard

Stunfisk (Galarian), Sneasler, and Bastiodon

For this team, you’ll want to use Galarian Stunfisk as the Lead role. This form of Stunfisk can take several hits, capable of forcing your opponent to switch up their options throughout the encounter. We recommend having Sneasler and Bastiodon on your roster. Sneasler can put on a good amount of shield pressure against the competition, but it is considered a glass cannon, and it won’t be able to take toom any hits. Luckily, you can swap to Bastiodon, a tank Pokémon made to take multiple hits, and it can dish out plenty of damage in Pokémon Go.

  • Stunfisk (Galarian): Mud shot (fast move), rock slide, and earthquake
  • Sneasler: Shadow Claw (fast move), Close Combat, and X-Scissor
  • Bastiodon: Smack Down (fast move), Stone Edge, and Flamethrower

Kommo-o, Noctowl, and Swampert (Shadow)

For everyone’s favorite, we have a team featuring Kommo-o as the lead Pokémon. It’s a pesudo-legendary Pokémon that might not be on everyone’s team in Pokémon Go, but it’s a worthwhile option if you can use it. We’ve paired it up alongside Noctowl, a strong Normal and Flying-type Pokémon, and Swampert, the shadow version. Swampert will be a solid Closer Pokémon, capable of holding up your team and protecting them from the final blow. All of these choices are extremely flexible when use against other players.

  • Kommo-o: Dragon Tail (fast move), Close Combat, and Dragon Claw
  • Noctowl: Wing Attack (fast move), Sky Attack, and Shadow Ball
  • Swampert (Shadow): Mud Shot (fast move), Hydro Cannon, and Earthquake

Carbink, Lickitung, and Poliwrath (Shadow)

The final team I want to discuss features Carbink, the mythical starting Pokemon. Surprisingly, Carbink is one of the leading choices in the Great League, and I’ve found it extremely useful alongside Lickitung and Poliwrath. You want to make sure Poliwrath is your Shadow version.

  • Carbink: Rock Throw (fast move), Rock Slide, and Moonblast
  • Lickitung: Lick (fast move), Body Slam, and Power Whip
  • Poliwrath (Shadow): Counter (fast move), Power-Up Punch, and Ice Punch
