While it’s great to have an established studio with a quality track record, it never hurts to try something new. That’s likely one of the many considerations going through Arkane Studios co-founder and former creative director Raphaël Colantonio’s mind recently, putting him on a new path in development. Today, Colantonio announced he’s teamed up with former Dishonored executive producer Julien Roby to create a new studio called WolfEye Studios, and they’ve already got a new project in the works.

“I think to back in the day and how Arkane was born out of wanting to make a game, not to make money,” Colantonio said about the new venture, speaking with VentureBeat. “And I think [our desire to form WolfEye] is the same desire to stay creative, and to bring something to gamers that we believe that we think is exciting.”

Roby added his thoughts as well. “The reason I got into making games was to make specific types of games I like to play,” he told VentureBeat. “I felt if I got back into games, it would be to do something I would want to do, not just for the sake of it. I’m excited to show [our project] to people.”

Though the team didn’t reveal its new project just yet, it did provide an image, shown above. It also noted it would give an official presentation next month during The Game Awards, set to air on Dec. 12.

As for why Colantonio would take such a risk on a new studio, his reasoning was simple. “The AAA market is risk-averse and innovation suffers from it,” he said in the announcement statment. “As a game designer, I’ve been wanting to try new ideas and approaches and I believe the Independent games are in the best space to do so.”
