It is a busy time in the world of League of Legends. The World Championships are currently underway, and later today, Riot will be hosting a livestream to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary. On top of that, e-sports inside Rod “Slasher” Brelau has tweeted that the company will announce a new digital card game during the live stream.

This would be the second new game from Riot in recent times. Team Fight Tactics was their entry into the auto-chess genre, and now with Legends of Runeterra, they would position themselves to compete with the likes of Hearthstone.

The digital card game is an awkward genre, and there is no guarantee of success, no matter how big your profile is in gaming. Valve recently learned that the hard way when Artifact failed to find an audience with their considerable DOTA playerbase.

While not much is known about Legends of Runeterra, we can assume it will pull from the established League of Legends characters pools and lore for cards, because doing anything else would be foolish. I’m also inquisitive to see what platforms the game will be on if it is announced.

Other rumors are circulating after League of Legends Mobile appeared to leak earlier today, so it would make a lot of sense of Legends of Runeterra to arrive on mobile platforms as well.

You will be able to watch the stream on the official Riot Twitch Channel at 6 pm PDT.
