Hunt: Showdown brings an interesting mix of PvPvE gameplay to the shooter genre. The game has spent some time in Early Access on Steam, being full polished up, but it breaks it’s shackles and stumbles towards a full release today.

Set in a twisted version of Louisiana, where nightmarish monsters roam the swamps, you can play as a lone Bounty Hunter, or with up to two friends. It is your job to get out into the swamp and take care of all the strange creatures that are causing so many problems. Doing so will net you bounties, allowing you to buy better gear, but if you die in the process, you lose everything. It is not just the threat of the monsters themselves you need to deal with, but also other players who are hunting those same bounties.

From my time spent playing Hunt: Showdown during the Early Access period, there is a definite tactical nuance to the game that should appeal to people who like a game to challenge more than just their ability to shoot. Learning when to go after a monster, and when it is better to risk sitting back and letting someone else work for the kill, is a vital part of the game.

The game also includes a Quick Play mode, that allows ten individual players to fight it out over gear and bounties. While the game currently sits at a Mixed rating on Steam, it is certainly worth exploring if you enjoy the idea of taking on both dangerous creatures and other players.
