On Aug. 27, 2019, the next game from the creator of Assassin’s Creed Patrice Desiléts, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, will release for PC. In case you’re wondering what it is, it’s a title about human evolution which has been in the making for around four years, and is releasing on consoles in December.

Desiléts made a name for creating the Assassin’s Creed franchise. He was the creative director on Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. So, considering this is the first game he’s doing after that experience at Ubisoft, it’s interesting to know whether that series has had an influence on Ancestors or not.

He didn’t deny his past or the fact that the IP has served as an inspiration for some of the themes discussed in the game.

“The historical aspect of it all, for sure, and the way in which almost everything you see, you can at least roughly interact with it,” Desiléts said.

When asked about whether the game would’ve featured its version of Abstergo, he laughed and shared that “no, not this time around. But it’s funny. I’ve said this in other interviews. To enjoy the game, you have to go into your own memory, your own DNA. We have that in us.”

“Biologically we’re built to survive,” Desiléts added. “Eventually you go into different biomes. It’s not only in the jungle. Once you’re on the savanna, with your clan on two legs and carrying sticks, you can remember that. That’s a bit of a link to Assassin’s Creed. We have all that in our DNA. We understand how that works.”

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey releases tomorrow for PC, exclusively on Epic Games Store for one year.
