At Inside Xbox, they revealed that Age of Empires II Definitive Edition is releasing on Nov. 14, 2019, for PC. Also, Age of Empires Definitive Edition is coming right away to the Xbox Game Pass for PC.

It looks like Microsoft is breathing new life into its long-time appreciated real-time strategy franchise. They may want to spread the franchise’s wings and have it go to other platforms, such as the Xbox One.

Twinfinite asked creative director Adam Isgreen whether this could happen anytime soon or not, and somewhat surprisingly he was quite open to the idea. He suggested it wouldn’t be a simple port, but a custom version with modified controls tailored for the Xbox.

“So, the plan is that I want to make the best PC RTS possible first,” Isgreen said, before reminding that Xbox currently supports mouse and keyboard. “Now there’s mouse and keyboard support on Xbox, but so many people don’t have mouse and keyboard that they can plugin. So, I think the challenge, and what I want to fool around with afterward, is… once we get this done, we’re gonna look at what we can do for console controls, like building a console control scheme specifically for Age of Empires.”

If there’s enough demand, Microsoft might be interested in building a console version for Age of Empires II Definitive Edition. The team who gets assigned to this may want to refer to the work on Halo Wars to get a better idea of how to do it.
