Telling Lies Receives August Release Date

A few years ago, Sam Barlow released a game called Her Story, an interactive story that changed the way many people thought of the video game medium. A video game doesn’t have to be all about winning or losing. But it can be about putting together footage to uncover a narrative. Lately, Barlow has been working on his next interactive narrative, Telling Lies, which has received an official release date.
Publisher Annapurna Interactive recently announced that Telling Lies will be released on Aug. 23, just one week from today (Aug. 16). The game will be available for PC and Mac computers via Steam, as well as coming to iOS devices for mobile players. The iOS version of the game will cost $6.99. The price of the PC and Mac versions has yet to be announced, but if the $5-$6 price gap between the mobile and computer versions of Her Story is any indication of the price of this new game, the PC and Mac versions of Telling Lies may be a bit more than $6.99.
Like Her Story, Telling Lies involves the participation of the player to sort through videos in order to figure out the larger narrative the game is telling. In Telling Lies, the player will sort through hundreds of videos from a stolen National Security Agency hard-drive that contains webcam footage of four individuals over a two-year period. The player will have to figure out a timeline of events, search for keywords, take notes in-game, and do whatever else it takes to figure out why these four people were being watched by the NSA.
