Virtual reality is a growing business, although many players in the industry thought it grow significantly faster. Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot has an idea about how the market could do that, and that has something to do with the prices of the devices.

Talking to the investors and analysts last night, Guillemot said that the price factor is still impacting and preventing the technology from genuinely spreading its wings. That’s alongside the fact that the technology remains in its early days and things like cables are troubling for what should be a “seamless, frictionless” experience.

“On the VR side, we think seamless, frictionless, and good entry prices, and good games, could help this business to take off because it provides a good immersion for players, but we need to make sure those elements are there to make it actually grow,” said Guillemot to VGC.

The publisher and developer have already launched a few games for virtual reality headsets, such as Eagle Flight, Werewolves Within, Transference. But these titles’ sales were a bit lower than anticipated, perhaps due to the technical limits mentioned above.

Interestingly, though, this isn’t stopping Ubisoft from investing more in the VR business. The company has reportedly reached an agreement with Facebook to build Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell games for the Oculus family of devices.
