Final Fantasy VII Remake Episode 1 Story Length Revealed, Will Go Up To Midgar

We may finally know the length of the first episode of the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
We’ve known for a while that the Final Fantasy VII Remake will be split into multiple parts. What we don’t know is in how many episodes the game will be split; in fact, even Square Enix themselves don’t know these details.
With that said, the entirety of Midgar seemed logical as the first part of the series. While it was only the first five hours of gameplay in the original Final Fantasy VII, Midgar was the most developed and complex area in the entire game. Much of the backstory and lore of the game is within Midgar.
Midgar also has a natural end spot, which would be when Cloud and the others escape from Shinra.
Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of the Remake and director of the original Final Fantasy VII, essentially confirms that the first part of the remake will take place exclusively in Midgar. Kitase posted a statement on Twitter, and Bahamut-Prime later translated it on Reddit.
The statement talks about the current state of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. He mentions that depicting the story up until the escape of Midgard already took up two Blu-ray discs.
“In doing a remake, what we first emphasized was to depict Midgar, which symbolized the world setting of the original Final Fantasy 7 the most, in a charming way. We newly redesigned the interior structure of Midgar and added new episodes as well as depictions of the daily lives of citizens who live there. Ultimately, just by depicting the story until the original’s Escape From Midgar, we already reached a huge capacity with a pack of 2 Blu-ray discs, which should have enough density and volume for the world setting and storyline.”
.”To go along with that, we have optimized character growths and boss monster placements for this game, completely reconstructing it as a single standalone game, which we think will have become a title worth playing enough. We plan to develop the Final Fantasy 7 remake project into multiple titles in the future, but we hope you will look forward to the release of the first title, Final Fantasy 7Remake, on March 3, 2020.”
Kitase’s statement appears to confirm that the first part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake will focus almost solely in Midgar.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake is slated to release on March 3, 2020.
