Gear of War 5 is getting a multiplayer tech test on July 17, giving fans there first chance to get to grips with the upcoming entry into the long-running series. Gears of War is famous for it’s visceral and hard-hitting, third-person gameplay. Over the years, the multiplayer portion has developed quite the following, and its competitive scene.

While a tech test usually is about pulling in connection info and game data to ensure that everything is working as intended, fans are getting their first chance to jump in the latest entry of the series and are getting their first taste of the new changes coming to the game. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any multiplayer gameplay during the live stream, so hopefully, some footage shows up over the next couple of days. We did get to see a tease of the new cooperative gameplay mode, however.

The world is crumbling. Humanity’s reliance on technology has become their downfall and enemies are uniting to wipe out all survivors. As Kait you must journey across the biggest, most beautiful Gears world to uncover the origins of the Locust, and fight with your squad to protect what’s left.

Gears of War 5 will put you in the boots of Kait, as you try to traverse a dangerous world to answer questions would prefer you didn’t ask. The game can be played solo, or in co-op mode, and will feature brand new cooperate and competitive modes. The game releases on September 10 for Xbox One and PC.

Epic Games Initially developed by Gear of War but was published by Microsoft in 2014, and since then development duties have been handled by Coalition. Gears of War 5 is planned as a Play Anywhere title, meaning you can purchase it, later play it on Xbox One, or PC. It will also be part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from launch, meaning the people subscribed to the service will be able to play without purchasing the game.
