Outer Worlds, the upcoming game from Obsidian Entertainment, now has a release date. The game is due to launch on October 25 this year. The upcoming role-playing game looks to tap into that Fallout feeling to win fans over. The game contains a branching story that spreads across multiple planets. The story seems to be based around the idea of rebellion among the stars, against the corporate overlords that rule there. You can also shoot NPCs, so be careful with that one.

The Outer Worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division. Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Obsidian Entertainment is giving the idea that you can decide to be whoever you want in Outer Worlds’ story, and how you interact with the NPCs is extremely important. You can be the hero, or you can be a lunatic with a gun, whatever takes your fancy.

The game is a part of the Game Pass service, which has got announced for the PC, as well as the Xbox One console. The game is the first game from Obsidian since Microsoft purchased the studio last year. Obsidian Entertainment, of course, developed Fallout: New Vegas, a series that they seem to draw on heavily for this game.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see a lot of gameplay elements during the trailer, but hopefully, we will get to learn more as E3 2019 unfolds. Despite the game appearing on the Microsoft stage, there was no mention of exclusivity, so it seems safe to assume it will also make its way to PS4. On PC, you will be able to pick up the game through the Microsoft Store or the Epic Store; it will not be available on Steam.
