Super Smash Bros. Melee Is Not Coming to Evo 2019

The board behind EVO, one of the biggest organized fighting game tournaments in the world, have decided not to include Super Smash Bros. Melee in this year’s competition. The announcement came during EVO’s live stream lineup reveal.
Super Smash Bros. Melee initially came out in 2001, and since then it’s held a hardcore community with plenty of professional competitors. For over a decade, plenty of tournaments, including EVO, have included kept it in their line-up due to the game’s popularity. However, the decision to withhold it this year was likely a business one. The competition wants to have new games featured at their event, and there’s a good handful of choices, such as Dragon Ball: Fighter Z, SoulCalibur VI, Tekken 7, and, Nintendo’s latest iteration to the Super Smash Bros. series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
EVO doesn’t want fans to think they made this choice lightly. To show their thanks for the community behind the game, they created a goodbye video centered around Super Smash Bros. Melee moments.
