Vampires have taken a back seat in the gaming world ever since Bloodrayne last graced us in 2011. DONTNOD Entertainment is definitely changing that with a brand new trailer released for Vampyr.

Vampyr is an action RPG that explores the tortured Dr. Jonathan Reid’s growth in power through brutal combat showcased in its Becoming a Monster gameplay trailer. Blood is the only way Reid can learn and evolve his powerful vampire abilities to defeat London’s deadly foes.

In order to gain these powers, Reid must feed on the very citizens he swore to protect. DONTNOD Entertainment gives players two choices when deciding to feed. Players can investigate citizens to see if they’re a better candidate for sacrifice or you can simply treat the fine citizens as your own personal blood supply.

Whatever you decide to do, just be wary that your actions have consequences as some citizens will have a greater impact on the local ecosystem than others. Kill too many citizens and you could cause an entire district to collapse.

Once you drain the blood from Reid’s victims, he will learn new powerful combat abilities. Close combat abilities will allow Reid to close any gaps quickly with deadly claws. Other abilities, like Blodspear, will allow Reid to deal damage from a distance. You’ll also be able to learn abilities that even vampires fear.

The ability Abyss allows Reid to unleash the shadows from within, while Rage targets and strikes entire groups of enemies with fury.

These abilities will aid Reid in his quest to save London and the people who inhabit the fair city. Vampyr releases June 5 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
