Sony’s new PlayStation Classic comes preloaded with 20 games
Nicole Carpenter Nintendo isn’t the only company doing the miniature console thing. Sony announced that it’s launching PlayStation Classic, a miniature version of the original PlayStation console that comes preloaded with 20 games.
Limited quantities will launch on Dec. 3 in Japan, North America, and Europe for $100. The PlayStation Classic is 45 percent smaller than the original, according to Sony. It’s got similar controls and packaging, but adds HDMI and USB cables to allow players to connect the console to different setups. Two controllers with local multiplayer use are also included in the bundle.

Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, and Ridge Racer are all included in the package.
“Almost 25 years ago, the original PlayStation was introduced to the world,” PlayStation marketing senior vice president Eric Lempel wrote on the PlayStation blog. “Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, it was the first home console in video game history to ship 100 million units worldwide, offering consumers a chance to play games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in their homes for the first time.”
Nintendo’s miniature consoles, SNES Classic Edition and Super Nintendo Mini, were released in 2016 and 2017, respectively, to wide success. In April 2018, Nintendo reported its plug-and-play SNES Classic Edition console had sold 5.28 million units since its 2016 launch. That number includes all sales from Japan, North America, and Europe. Both systems were sold out almost instantly when they were first released, but have since become more widely available.
