Jurassic World Evolution won’t include mod support

Jurassic World Evolution is a park-building simulation game that lets you create and operate your own Jurassic World theme park. It’s rife with plenty of tools to run a successful park, with lots of potential for mods and other items to be added by fans. There’s just one caveat to that, though. It doesn’t feature mod support, and probably never will.

According to developer Frontier Developments’ CEO David Braben when speaking to PC Gamer, this is because the game will continue to receive updates and keeping mod support out of the title will make it easier to do so.

“What we don’t want […] is the game going in multiple directions and we can’t touch the code – because then you would trash all the mods,” Braben said. He went on to explain that the team does understand the “positivity” of adding in mods, explaining that the “upside” of the matter is that the game will be supported for the near future.

“That’s the flip side of modding – if it’s like, there you go, we’re not going to touch it again, then obviously it can be modded,” Braben said. “That’s the challenge.”

It’s disappointing that, unlike Frontier Developments’ Planet Coaster, which does have plenty of mod content, Jurassic World Evolution won’t be able to go the same route. But at the very least, we can potentially hope for more content coming down the pipeline soon enough. Braben didn’t speak on what kind of additions would be made in the future just yet, but if you’ve already gotten established in your park, you can probably think of a few awesome things that would feel right at home in your custom creation.

In the meantime, we’ve got your back if you need some assistance getting everything squared away in your park.
