At long last, a remake of the classic Resident Evil 2 has been announced, which is fantastic news for the fans who have been waiting some time to get their hands on it. The good news? It looks absolutely amazing.

Players will take on the role of rookie officer Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they team up to combat a disastrous zombie outbreak in the iconic Raccoon City. The remake will stay true to the original game, as both Leon and Claire will feature separate playable campaigns so you can see things through both sets of eyes.

Both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield were shown off during the meaty bit of footage as we’re taken into Raccoon City deep in the middle of the zombie outbreak. In addition to gifting ravenous players a cinematic trailer, Sony also debuted a new look at gameplay as well, which looks pretty fantastic, if we do say so ourselves.

We were shown a brief clip during Sony’s E3 2018 showcase, where we see the game from the point of view of a rat for a few moments before things dissolve into something a little more familiar: a scuffle between a hungry zombie and an unsuspecting victim.

If you pre-order the fantastic-looking Resident Evil 2 remake, you’ll get two bonus weapons: S.T.A.R.S members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine’s Samurai Edge handguns, so if you’re planning on buying the game anyway, it’s worth jumping on a pre-order for these fun extras.

Resident Evil 2 is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Jan. 25, 2019.
