Jump Force, a brand new anime-inspired fighting game by Bandai Namco, has caught the eye of the fighting game community instantly.

When it was announced at E3, not much about the game was known. Would it be a fighting game at all? Was it a sequel to Bandai’s other popular manga mashup, the Jump VS. series? And what would would the game be like?

Mere hours after the presentation ended, however, Bandai has slowly started to reveal more about the game on social media.

The game is now confirmed to be a fighting game after official gameplay was shown on the show floor with stages being based in earth. The game seems to be a “what if?” mashup of anime characters invading the real world, causing havoc as they try to either defend or destroy it.

The gameplay shown, however, is still pretty early into the game’s life cycle and could change as the game nears release. Bandai has not yet confirmed an official release date. The game features three-on-three tag-like battles, almost like Marvel vs. Capcom, with a super meter being built up over time to deliver devastating super moves.

While we don’t get to see Light and Ryuk from Death Note, who were prominent in the initial trailer, we do get to see two new characters revealed for the game that were previously unmentioned. Pirate Hunter Zoro from the One Piece series and Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto can be seen as partners to Frieza in the side bar. They bring the total roster size up to eight revealed so far.
