Square Enix’s cult classic RPG Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is officially available in English today for both iOS and Android.

Rather than a brand new version of the PlayStation version of Valkyrie Profile, however, this is an enhanced port of the PSP version that originally released back in 2006. Originally announced earlier this year for Japanese audiences, it’s finally available for western audiences on iOS and Android for $15.99.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth tasks you with rounding up a group of fallen warriors’ souls to prepare for battle against enemies during Ragnarok, or the end of the world in Norse mythology. You play as the eponomous Lenneth, a Valkyrie who previously lived life as a human. She’s working to uncover the secrets of what happened during her time as a mortal as well, so there are several objectives to complete during this turn-based RPG.

The mobile version features onscreen touch controls as well as support for controllers, if you’ve got a MFI-certified device handy. There are various boosters available as in-app purchases as well, though after you’ve spent nearly $20 on the main game, you probably won’t be too interested in plunking additional cash down. There are other modifications as well that make things a bit easier for mobile players on the go, such as auto-battles and a save-anywhere function.

This looks like a great way to experience the first entry in the Valkyrie Profile series if you’ve never tried it out before, especially since it’s a little inconvenient to play on either PlayStation or PSP these days. Hopefully its PlayStation 2 sequel eventually gets a new lease on life as well.
