Rockstar Games has announced Red Dead Redemption 2 will be getting a companion app for iOS and Android devices as soon as the game releases on October 26.

The app is really smart and totally connecting to the title, meaning that you won’t only be able to get the map on your second screen but also all the information about protagonist Morgan, so you could possibly have a HUD-free experience on your TV.

Using the app, “you can pan and zoom the map, set waypoints or mark areas of interest with a tap on your screen, aiding your exploration and discovery throughout the expansive world of Red Dead Redemption 2.”

In case you’re wondering how big the map is, give it a look in this leaked version from a German guide to the game.

“The app will also show you Arthur Morgan’s core info and stats in real-time on your device, allowing you to completely remove the in-game HUD from your television should you choose,” so it’s quite a big game changer instead of limiting to the map (which I would’ve loved the same anyway).

“Additionally, the Companion lets you examine Arthur’s in-game Journal, provides stat tracking through Social Club, contains the full digital game manual, plus an optional digital version of the Red Dead Redemption 2 Complete Official Guide from Piggyback and more.”

Companion apps are something big developers and publishers have dropped a while ago, with the only useful example that comes to my mind now being FIFA Ultimate Team.

Are you ready to jump into this experience, too?
